SEGA is set to record an operating loss in excess of 7.1 billion yen ($86.5 million USD) in the year finishing March 2012. This loss will hit the company hard, and as a result not only will SEGA be pruning their workforce, they are also going to be cancelling work on certain games currently under development with the company. According to the company, the loss is a result of the “severe economic environment in the US and Europe and rapid change in market environment of home video game software.”

game

In news that is unlikely to shock anyone given the companies recent troubles, GAME Group announced today that the retail chain has gone into administration, placing over 6000 jobs in jeopardy. Accountant PwC was appointed administrator to the UK GAME Group after talks with its lenders broke down. The group, which has over 600 stores trading under the brands GAME and Gamestation, now faces a rocky future, and although PwC is hopeful the company can be sold, such hope likely feels very bitter to the 5100 employees in the company’s retail stores, and 385 staff at its headquarters.

residenteviloperationracooncity

More bad news for GAME customers, with the announcement today that GAME stores will not be stocking Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City. PC Gaming Bootcamp: Which games have shaped you?

skyrimdragon

I have very few friends that I can talk to about video games. They just stare blankly back at me while I tell them about my weekend of dragon slaying, caped crusading and capturing animals inside red and white balls. And the very few people I can talk about the above about without being subjected to random drug testing are what can only be described as PC elitists.
