Review – Devil May Cry

Ninja Theory’s new Devil May Cry sure is one hell of a ride. It immediately throws you into a demonic version of reality, which is a decaying and interactively evolving version of Earth, called Limbo. The new Dante can be ‘pulled’ into Limbo seemingly at will by the demons who inhabit it, and the world dramatically changes around him. The first level of the game takes place on the Santa Monica Pier (or something very similar) and it quickly evolves into a red, hyper-aesthetic and uncontrollably exciting nightmare.

Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance Hands On

Max Brooks, the author of the legendary novel World War Z, once said that knives are useful in combat because blades don’t need reloading. In Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance I love that Raiden, the game’s main protagonist, wields a great hulking katana called the High-Frequency Blade. I like the fact that I don’t have to run around looking for bullets, or worry about how my ammunition levels are going or take hits while I’m reloading. To be quite honest, I’m over games with guns as the primary weapon. Give me something different, something melee! Give me Metal Gear Rising: Revengenace!

The 16th annual D.I.C.E. award nominees have been announced. To those unfamiliar with D.I.C.E. (Design, Innovate, Communicate, Entertain) their awards are more Screen Actors Guild and less MTV Movie Awards like some other video game awards shows.

Remember Me Trailer

Yeah, it’s a bit old, but I am not going to lie, I had not heard about DONTNOD’s 3rd person action game Remember Me before today.  After seeing the trailer though, I have to say I am intrigued.  The story looks like a mix of Total Recall (the good “Get your ass to Mars” one) and Blade Runner while the combat looks appears to be pulled from Batman.  DONTNOD’s website does not have a release date for it, but they say to look for it on the PC, PS3 and Xbox 360.  I’m going to take the wildest of guesses […]

Dead or Alive 5 Review – How do you weaponise a ninja?

Straight up; I’m no expert on fighting games, having only played them casually Back in the Day. Additionally, my only contact with the Dead or Alive series was the movie, which I’m convinced is a parody of video game movies more than anything else. Though I’m kind of scared how much character recognition this gave me during this review.

Retro City Rampage hits Xbox Live Arcade

The word “retro” is starting to become shorthand for “it uses sprites”.   As I wrote in my review of the Playstation 3 version, Retro City Rampage is a game that moves beyond a retro look and soundtrack.  It delivers a sense of nostalgia that takes me back in a way that no game since MegaMan 9 has. For those who have 800 Microsoft points burning a hole in their virtual pocket, this is your chance to play Save Game’s award for “2012’s game that looks like it was made in 1989”.

Far Cry 3 Review

Far Cry 3 is a deep, violent and drug-fuelled venture into a lush, tropical island with an unforgiving and dominant underworld. Aside from Rook Island’s dark pretences, you play how you want to play, do exactly what you want to do and as a result your experience will be entirely unique. You can fight your way through the main quest armed with the weapon of your choosing, or maybe explore ancient ruins, dive into mysterious caves, tackle bullsharks or walk among locals. Rook Island is yours – well, aside from the pirates, madmen and an inescapable principle of violence.
