Mass Effect 3 won’t recognize some Shepards

shepardsThe Mass Effect series has always had a great idea behind player involvement.  Not only is the story Commander Shepard’s story, but it has also always been the player’s Commander Shepard’s story.  Well now it’s not so much your Shepard’s story as it is that one Shepard that kind of looks like your Shepard…. a little…if you squint.

Players who have been with the Mass Effect series since the very beginning and have a custom Commander Shepard (count yourself lucky if you chose the defaults above) are having some serious issues importing their Shepard’s faces into the character creator in Mass Effect 3.

Chris Priestly made an official statement on the Bioware forums regarding the issue:

Hi everyone
We are aware that some players are having issues importing the faces of characters from Mass Effect 1 or Mass Effect 2 into Mass Effect 3. The issue is likely in how faces were detected when imported from Mass Effect 1 into Mass Effect 2, and we’re working on the best way to correct it for affected players.

Here’s hoping they can get the problem rectified soon.  That seems like kind of a big deal, especially in a game where players have become emotionally invested in their Shepard’s story.  It also seems like something that should have been noticed before the actual launch of the game, but it’s good to see Bioware taking steps to fix the issue.  No word on when this will happen though.

In the meantime, enjoy your playthrough with….that similar looking cousin of your Shepard who has the big forehead.
