Old Game, New Review – Fallout 3

fallout34

Fallout 3 received some acclaim when it was first released in 2008. With reviews in the 90th percentile, and a love of Oblivion/Bethesda, I was looking forward to playing this game set in post-nuclear, dystopian America. So after playing the game for a good several hours, I’ve resigned myself to the realization that I likely will not get any farther—nor pass—Fallout 3, due to a mixture of gameplay mechanics and my own personal frustration with it.

Achievement Unlocked: Wow! Jen Reviews Arkham City

batmanarkhamcity

Holy glistening weasel tits, Batman!  I’ve been playing the hell out of Batman: Arkham City and that’s literally the first thing I thought of when I thought of what to write for this review.  I suppose you could blame my unnatural affinity for weasels, but I like to think that the game itself inspired such an embarassing exclamation.

Late to the Party: A Review of League of Legends: Dominion

dominion

For those of you who don’t know, Dominion is a new mode in the DotA clone of League of Legends which brings a whole new element to the game. Whereas as League Classic is incredibly strategy focused, Dominion does not leave much room for teamwork (save for in cases where you enter the game with a premade team). Games are fast-paced, usually running anywhere from 15 to 30 minutes, as opposed to Classic games which tend to average 45 minutes.

Cursed Loot: A Review

cursedloot3

Last Winter, Eye Hook Games released a simple dungeon crawler on Xbox Live Arcade aptly titled Epic Dungeon, a delightful little platformer RPG with the most basic gameplay.  A few months ago Epic Dungeon got an overhaul and the name was changed to Cursed Loot.  It’s basically the same game, though we think its subtle changes like extra classes and more in depth talent tree have made for an even more delightful experience.

With all of the in depth, involved, complicated, expensive MMO RPG emotionally engaging story based shooters out there, sometimes you just need something simple to enjoy.  The Mass Effects, Torchlights, SWOTORs and Warcrafts are all great and a lot of fun to play, but what happens when you’re just not in the mood for anything over complicated or involved?  You turn to XBox Live and its vast assortment  of games perfectly catered to this state of mind.  Crimson Alliance is one of those games and it makes good on its promise.

And Now I Want Muffins – A Review of Muffin Knight

muffinknight

After watching our little video preview of Muffin Knight from Angry Mob Games I realized two things:  One, I was hungry and two, the game looked pretty cute.  So I decided to try it out, and it was the most whimsical $2.99 I’ve ever spent.

Trenched Review

trenched1

In our shining pantheon of video games, too often do downloadable games get the cold shoulder. The reputation for chintzy, non-serious forays into the industry by ill prepared indie developers leaves a bad taste in the gamer community’s mouth. Maybe one out of three or four titles don’t play like crappy ad-hoc flash games. Well, put down your awesome Techno Kitten Adventures, boys and girls. Trenched is about to Listerine the crap out of your little gumlines.
