Skylanders Trap Team – Review

8.5 out of 10 Great Recommended

I’ll be the first to admit that I have absolutely no working knowledge of the Skylanders video games. I came into reviewing Skylanders Trap Team as a complete newbie, with no prior conceptions of what to expect. After playing through Skylanders Trap Team on the Xbox One, I can safely say the game has entranced me, and left me with that kind of excitable glee normally associated with the opening of gifts on Christmas Day.

Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor – Review

Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor is probably the best LOTR-themed game in recent years, possibly since the tie-in game for Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers. It steadily improves as a game through play, strongly conveying the growth in power of the player’s character Talion through play as well as story, and in a most welcome change, it exercises moderation in how it touches upon the lore that surrounds Middle-earth. While one of the key draws for LOTR games is being able to explore the environments we’ve seen in films or read of in the books, the word judicious doesn’t come […]

FIFA 15 – Review

8 out of 10 Great

FIFA 15 is EA Sport’s quintessential football simulation. Having played the last 5 iterations of the franchise, it is remarkable to see the subtle yet profound changes that have created what most fans would agree, is their most realistic and challenging game of football. It’s become almost a cliche to refer to FIFA’s yearly release as “evolutionary” while Konami’s Pro Evolution Soccer series, has had to implement “revolutionary” changes to compete with EA’s juggernaut. However, while FIFA15 offers the user a myriad of gameplay features, excellent presentation and an engaging multi-player experience, it still leaves this particular virtual football player […]

Transistor – Review

8.5 out of 10 Great Recommended

“Oh! An indie game with a silent protagonist, how philosophical,” you mutter to yourself sarcastically as you pick up the controller to play Supergiant Game’s new action RPG, Transistor. Yet in the context of this game, the silence actually has something profound to say. In Transistor you play as the enigmatic Red, a prolific singer and resident to the city of Cloudbank who loses her voice following an assassination attempt at one of her shows. Cloudbank, the city much of the game inhabits, is eerily beautiful. Its contrasting pastel colors and noir style reflect a future that is not far […]

Review – Rayman Legends

9.5 out of 10 Excellent

In 2011 Rayman was reinvented, throwing him and all of his buddies into a 2D platformer. Rayman Origins was a delight to gamers then and now Rayman Legends has taken all the goodness of the previous game and revitalised it, adding stronger level design and stunning visuals, to create a game that’s simple, pure fun.

inFAMOUS: Second Son – Review

9 out of 10 Excellent

Greatness awaits – that was the tag line used with the launch of the PS4. Unfortunately, with the scarce release of PS4 exclusives, gamers have had nothing to feel all that great about. Until now. The release of inFAMOUS: Second Sun from Sucker Punch finally brings that feeling of greatness to the player, putting you in control of some awesome powers and giving you free rein to use them as you see fit as you traverse the wonderfully recreated Seattle. Our ‘hero’ of the game is Delsin Rowe, a delinquent whose biggest claim to fame prior to gaining powers is […]
