Fallout 4: First Impressions

This first impressions article is based on approximately 8 hours of gameplay and is spoiler free Fallout 4, the latest entry in the post-nuclear-apocalypse RPG series is easily one of the most highly anticipated titles of the last few years. Expectations were at an all-time high following Bethesda’s impressive showing at E3 this year, meaning that the final product was going to have to be extremely high class to live up to the hype. Thankfully, for the most part, it does. But it also falls painfully short in some areas.

Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End

Uncharted is undoubtedly one of Sony’s marquee franchises. I’m not an expert when it comes to the series – I played the original game before my PS3 died, but admit I only have a fleeting knowledge of the games. That might change with the upcoming release of Uncharted: The Nathan Drake Collection, but I still knew enough to be all over Naughty Dog’s newest offering.

EB Expo: Hands on with The Division

After an extremely long gestation period, the post-apocalyptic shooter known as The Division was finally available to play. Ubisoft showed a little bit of the game at last year’s EB Expo with a hands-off demo, but for those that have been dying to step back into the world created by Tom Clancy, this was the year. The mode shown off was The Dark Zone, an intense PVP section of the world where players will find the best gear for their characters, and their greatest challenges.

Review: Until Dawn

8.5 out of 10 Great Recommended

Until Dawn is the epitome of a slow-burning sleeper hit. Developed by Supermassive Games, this choose-your-own-adventure love letter to 90’s horror arrived on the PS4 with relatively little hype and a lot of detractors prior to release, but has rightfully earned considerable praise and popularity. Until Dawn has slick presentation, engaging writing and gameplay focused on player choice.Highly addictive entertainment, memorable moments and lovingly-crafted atmosphere make it easy to put up with shortcomings, and mean the game can expect to feature in numerous “Best of 2015” lists.

Double Fine announces Headlander

It’s Atari nostalgia to the MAX with Headlander – read Shaun’s news report on the game below! Double Fine Productions have announced their next game Headlander, which will be published in association with Adult Swim Games. It’s a retro 80-themed Sci-Fi side-scrolling romp, filled to the brim with neon, robots, and lasers. The announce trailer doesn’t give away much in the way of story, but does show off the game’s core mechanic- the ability to detach your head from your current body and attach it to another. Anyone anyone else getting visions of Nixon in Futurama? There are numerous body […]

Review – Jaws of Hakkon

9 out of 10 Excellent Recommended

If you’ve ever played a Bioware game, you know that by the time the first cutscene is over, you’re going to have a dozen new codex entries to read right off the bat. We all saw how crucial lore was in Inquisition – it was like they sharpened it and very sneakily stabbed us in the back with it. Inquisition’s first story-based DLC, Jaws of Hakkon, is now out and available for all platforms, and while it doesn’t address our elven-pantheon related questions, it does give us an extra adventure with new allies and enemies in a beautiful new area […]

Elder Scrolls Online tips for newbies

For the first time ever I have been truly drawn into the world of an MMORPG, and this is due to none other than The Elder Scrolls Online. However as a relative noob in the world of an MMO, I have to admit that I was a little bit lost at the beginning of the game. I found myself having to look for information and tips on multiple sites. And rather than keep it all to myself, I decided why not share my insights of ESO that just may help you on the road to saving Tamriel.

Review – Action Henk

7.5 out of 10 Good

“Ready?! GO!” If you’re planning on playing ‘Action Henk’, be prepared to hear these two words over and over again. Action Henk is a 2D time trial racer reminiscent of Sonic where you race around tracks constructed from toy car tracks, blocks of wood and jack in the box jumps as garish 90s inspired action figures. The tracks are short but you will spend plenty of time trying to complete the perfect run with every minor mistake making you instinctively hit the reset button to attempt the track all over again. However, instead of utilizing moves like Sonic’s spin dash […]

Review: The Evil Within Story DLC – The Assignment & The Consequence

8 out of 10 Great

Tango Gameworks and Bethesda’s The Evil Within promised “a return to the roots of survival horror”, and with one of the fathers of the genre Shinji Mikami at the helm, it definitely had plenty of potential. Sadly, the game was heavily marred by technical bugs, poor design choices and an almost incomprehensible narrative. All the key ingredients for a great game were there, but they weren’t executed properly. But it seems old Shinji and his pals had a few tricks left up their sleeves, and the two story-focused DLC’s, The Assignment and The Consequence almost completely redeem the franchise. Many […]
