Hands on preview: Naruto Shippuden – Ultimate Ninja Storm Revolution

The Ultimate Ninja games on PS2 were one of those series that my friends and I would whip out at gatherings every now and then. They were easy to pick up and play, and seeing our favourite characters beat the crud out of each other with their special moves was always exciting. I haven’t watched the anime in a while, nor have I played any of the Ultimate Ninja Storm games, but when given the chance to try out the upcoming instalment, Naruto Shippuden: Ultimate Ninja Storm Revolution, I wouldn’t say no!

Hands on preview: Tales of Xillia 2

I was a little wary beginning my preview of Tales Of Xillia 2. I’m not often grabbed by JRPGs, and with it being a sequel I was worried I’d be left behind by the plot, having no idea what was going on. Thankfully, despite my initial concerns, it left a much better impression than that.

The path to a gay lead

Gaming has come a long way over the years. From the simplicity of Pong to the complexities of trying to understand the plot of the Metal Gear Solid series, we have seen games evolve from more than the quick game you try and reload, to games in which the story-lines engage the player, drawing them in to the artificial world created by the games writers. We are spending greater amounts of time in these game worlds, and with this time investment has come a greater interaction with the characters within these worlds.

Hands on preview – Project CARS

“Have you played a racing simulator before?” I’m asked as I stand in Bandai Namco’s Sydney office. “I’ve… tried to” I reply. This elicits a laugh. “Yeah, that’s a good answer”. I won’t pretend that I’m the target audience of Project CARS (which is short for Community Assisted Racing Simulator) because I’m really not. It’s designed for people who take racing games seriously, who know all the famous circuits like the back of their hand, and understand the differences between all the classes of cars besides “These ones are faster”. I’m not great at racing games, and I lack the […]

Trials Fusion – Review

“Welcome to the future, man, machine the fusion.” These are the titular words you hear when first booting up the latest effort from RedLynx. Trials Fusion is the latest installment in the trials series, after the very popular and very frustrating Trials Evolution. Fusion sticks to the same formula with a capital F, being frustrating at times yet incredibly rewarding when you finally get past that obstacle you’ve been stuck on.

Review – Rayman Legends

9.5 out of 10 Excellent

In 2011 Rayman was reinvented, throwing him and all of his buddies into a 2D platformer. Rayman Origins was a delight to gamers then and now Rayman Legends has taken all the goodness of the previous game and revitalised it, adding stronger level design and stunning visuals, to create a game that’s simple, pure fun.

inFAMOUS: Second Son – Review

9 out of 10 Excellent

Greatness awaits – that was the tag line used with the launch of the PS4. Unfortunately, with the scarce release of PS4 exclusives, gamers have had nothing to feel all that great about. Until now. The release of inFAMOUS: Second Sun from Sucker Punch finally brings that feeling of greatness to the player, putting you in control of some awesome powers and giving you free rein to use them as you see fit as you traverse the wonderfully recreated Seattle. Our ‘hero’ of the game is Delsin Rowe, a delinquent whose biggest claim to fame prior to gaining powers is […]

Castlevania: Lords of Shadow 2 Review

8.5 out of 10 Great

Sometimes a game doesn’t bring anything exceptionally new to the table, but is still an enjoyable experience. This is definitely true of Castlevania: Lords Of Shadow 2. It combines a Metroidvania structure with God Of War-esque combat and ties it all together with an absolutely gorgeous game world, and an interesting character journey. It may not push any boundaries, but it’s definitely a game worth playing.
