The abuse culture in the gaming world

I remember a time long ago, when I was no more than 8 years old, my parents bought me my first gaming console – the Nintendo Entertainment System. I had a number of games on the little square brick that I both loved (The Legend of Zelda) and hated (the insanely difficult Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles). I was not shy about telling all of my friends in the school playground how hard and bad TMNT was. This schoolyard talk was the only option open to me then, as there were no forums or social media sites to complain about a […]

The Wolf Among Us: Episode 2 – Smoke & Mirrors Review

The absurd concept of Telltale’s The Wolf Among Us makes it a hard sell.  After all, the desire to follow a noire thriller starring The Big Bad Wolf as he tracks down a serial killer in a town full of fairy tale characters requires a cross section of a lot of niche interests.  Despite the odd mix of materials, Telltale manages to stitch up a quality tale in the first episode, and for the most part, the company does it again in episode 2, although the seams are starting to look a little frayed.

Castlevania: Lords of Shadow 2 hands on

Preview events are usually a pretty standard fare – you go into an office building or a booked out room, where consoles have been set up and you play through sections of a game. Nothing out of the ordinary. The preview event I attended last week took place in a Red Cross blood donor centre. Yeah, it was a little odd, but it makes more sense when you take into consideration it was a preview event for the upcoming Castlevania game, Lords of Shadow 2, in which you play the infamous vampire Dracula. Attendees not only got to step into […]

An Interview with Rana McAnear – Part I

Rana McAnear is best known as the face model of Samara and Morinth from the Mass Effect series. Recently, she’s made a habit of cosplaying those characters and playing an active role in the Mass Effect fan community. Her participation has garnered her an overwhelmingly positive reputation.  I was lucky enough to sit down with her for a Skype interview after this year’s Dragon*Con.

Interview with Michael Read, Producer at Crytek

The technology in the XBox One is leaps ahead of the 360, which has given Crytek a chance to push things even further. What are you most excited about in creating games for the next gen consoles? We’re really excited about pushing the visual fidelity for the living room. Given our past history with the Crysis series, each one of those games has always pushed the PC hardware beyond its limits. Now, depends on who you’re talking to, some people are really excited about the amount of RAM and the processing power and you then go to the R&D guys […]

Interview with Mike Jones, producer at Capcom Vancouver

What are you most excited about in developing for the next gen consoles, with the new technology and being able to explore now? For Dead Rising 3 what we’re most excited about is that we’ve been able to take the experience of Dead Rising, of course we had lots of zombies, of course we had lots of weapons, but they’d always been confined to very small gameplay spaces. We had always partitioned load zones into either a mall or a casino resort but now we’ve got more memory we’ve got more horsepower, we can do a fully streaming open world, […]
