New Assassin’s Creed 4 gameplay video details naval combat

assassins-creed-4-bannerWhile reaction to Assassin’s Creed 3 was decidely mixed, pretty much everyone agreed that the naval combat was the best part of the game.  Ubisoft has turned it into an integral part of Black Flag, and a new gameplay video details all of the ways it’s been expanded and enhanced.  Read on to see it for yourself.

At over seven minutes in length, this newest gameplay video offers the most detailed look yet at the ship based combat of Black Flag.  Perhaps Ubisoft was jealous of Rockstar’s five minute GTA gameplay reveal yesterday?  We may never know.  What we do know, however, is that commanding your own pirate ship in Black Flag looks totally awesome.  The Jackdaw, protagonist Edward Kenway’s ship, is described in the video as the second most important character in the game, behind Kenway himself.  Throughout the game, you’ll take the Jackdaw into combat against both sea and land based enemies, pilot it through fierce storms, and explore a massive open world.  It all looks ridiculously fun, and you can check it out for yourself below.

Does that look fun, or what?  It was like watching the battle scenes from Master and Commander at 4x speed.  Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag will launch October 29 in North America, October 31 in Australia, and November 1 in Europe for PS3, Wii U, Xbox 360, and PC.  The game will also be a launch title for both the PS4 and Xbox One, when they launch later in the year.

Joe was born in a time of war. A console war. Two electronic titans were locked in a heated battle for the living rooms of America. Which titans, you ask? Well, the Fairchild Channel F and the Atari 2600 of course. You see, Joe is old. So many of his favorite games tend to be on the older side as well. But that hasn’t stopped him from developing unhealthy obsessions with such modern franchises as Halo and Mass Effect. Just don’t tell him how long it’s been since the original Metroid was released. His aging heart can’t take the shock.
