Rockstar delays release of GTA Online heists

GTA-online-bannerGrand Theft Auto 5’s elaborate, exhilarating heists seemed like a natural fit for the game’s online multiplayer, yet they remain tantalizingly close but out of reach.  Hinted at even before the game was released, heists were supposed to finally be added to GTA Online this spring.  But now, the feature has been indefinitely delayed by Rockstar.  Read on for the details.

The news came in the form of a post made on the official Rockstar Newswire.  Responding to a number of inquiries as to why heists were not included in the latest I’m Not a Hipster update, a Rockstar representative posted the following…

For those of you asking about other upcoming GTA Online updates, we have lots more in store coming your way soon. We know many fans have been eagerly awaiting the release of the Online Heists that we had planned to release for you this spring, and they are taking more time to create than originally anticipated. We are very sorry for the delay, and are working hard to bring them to you as soon as we can. Please know that we are focused as always on making the best possible content for you to play and we are thankful to all of you for your patience, understanding and support. Stay tuned for more information on that as well as lots of other ongoing content updates, enhancements and additions to the world of GTA Online that are on the way.

So there you have it.  Heists are still coming, apparently, but Rockstar is unwilling to stay when.  We’re quickly approaching the one year anniversary of the game’s release, which is usually the point where a game’s online population begins to fade away.  But GTA4 remained firmly entrenched in Xbox Live’s top ten for years after its release.  Factoring in the upcoming next gen release of GTA5, there’s reason to believe that heists, whenever they eventually show up, will have a long and healthy life in GTA Online.  But, Rockstar… seriously… just get it done, already.

The I’m Not a Hipster update is available now for free, and adds all new clothing, jobs, and vehicles to GTA Online.

Joe was born in a time of war. A console war. Two electronic titans were locked in a heated battle for the living rooms of America. Which titans, you ask? Well, the Fairchild Channel F and the Atari 2600 of course. You see, Joe is old. So many of his favorite games tend to be on the older side as well. But that hasn’t stopped him from developing unhealthy obsessions with such modern franchises as Halo and Mass Effect. Just don’t tell him how long it’s been since the original Metroid was released. His aging heart can’t take the shock.
