SWTOR releasing Autumn 2012 in Australia and NZ

It’s all stations go (or perhaps that’s queued) in the rest of the world with the release of Star Wars: The Old Republic earlier this week. Our own Jen was at the midnight launch for the game in New York (and she took a mighty fine video of the Q & A session with Ray and Greg which you can find here). As much as I’d like to be excited about the game – there’s one teeny tiny point that has prevented this – and that’s Bioware’s silence on when we here in Australia would see the game. That silence ended today, with Bioware announcing that Aussie Star Wars fans will be able to play their MMO in Autumn 2012.

The at least 3 month wait to receive the game after everyone else in the world has is hard to swallow, but Bioware have hinted at local servers for Australian and New Zealand players. The official word from their forums regarding the Australian and New Zealand launch of the game:

We can confirm that Star Wars: The Old Republic will be launching in Australia and New Zealand in the spring of 2012.

Right now we are targeting March 1st, but that could change as our number one priority is making sure that customers have a great service to play on.

For those of you who may have already imported the game, we will be investigating solutions to allow you to continue to play on a local server once they come online in March.

EDIT: As pointed out, southern hemisphere seasons are reversed! When we say ‘Spring’ you can substitute ‘Q1/Q2 2012’. Apologies for that.

We’ll bring you updated information as we receive it. Until then, here’s the recently released ‘Your Saga Begins’ launch documentary.
