FIFA 15 – Review

8 out of 10 Great

FIFA 15 is EA Sport’s quintessential football simulation. Having played the last 5 iterations of the franchise, it is remarkable to see the subtle yet profound changes that have created what most fans would agree, is their most realistic and challenging game of football. It’s become almost a cliche to refer to FIFA’s yearly release as “evolutionary” while Konami’s Pro Evolution Soccer series, has had to implement “revolutionary” changes to compete with EA’s juggernaut. However, while FIFA15 offers the user a myriad of gameplay features, excellent presentation and an engaging multi-player experience, it still leaves this particular virtual football player […]

DLC Review – Dark Souls 2: Crown of the Sunken King

8 out of 10 Great

Sometimes, I wonder why I do this. It’s 2am. I’m reeling from yet another death, handed ignomiously to me by another almost impossible to kill Dark Souls 2 denizen. My patience is on a razor edge, I’m so close to throwing the controller down and walking away. And yet I press forward, telling myself I’ll continue for just a little longer, that I’ll try just one more time. Because the challenge of progressing to the next bonfire to save your game, whilst oh so maddening, also leads to the sweetest reward when achieved. This is what Dark Souls 2 does […]

Trials Fusion – Review

“Welcome to the future, man, machine the fusion.” These are the titular words you hear when first booting up the latest effort from RedLynx. Trials Fusion is the latest installment in the trials series, after the very popular and very frustrating Trials Evolution. Fusion sticks to the same formula with a capital F, being frustrating at times yet incredibly rewarding when you finally get past that obstacle you’ve been stuck on.

Review: Bioshock Infinite Burial at Sea – Episode 2

7 out of 10 Good

When Bioshock Infinite launched a little over a year ago, it was met with near universal acclaim.  It was hailed as an instant classic, and one of the best games of this past generation.  So expectations for Burial at Sea, its mysterious expansion DLC, were high.  While the first episode was entertaining enough, it was far from what fans were expecting.  So will Episode Two be equally underwhelming, or will it capture some of the magic that made Bioshock Infinite so memorable?  Read on to find out.

Castlevania: Lords of Shadow 2 Review

8.5 out of 10 Great

Sometimes a game doesn’t bring anything exceptionally new to the table, but is still an enjoyable experience. This is definitely true of Castlevania: Lords Of Shadow 2. It combines a Metroidvania structure with God Of War-esque combat and ties it all together with an absolutely gorgeous game world, and an interesting character journey. It may not push any boundaries, but it’s definitely a game worth playing.

The Wolf Among Us: Episode 2 – Smoke & Mirrors Review

The absurd concept of Telltale’s The Wolf Among Us makes it a hard sell.  After all, the desire to follow a noire thriller starring The Big Bad Wolf as he tracks down a serial killer in a town full of fairy tale characters requires a cross section of a lot of niche interests.  Despite the odd mix of materials, Telltale manages to stitch up a quality tale in the first episode, and for the most part, the company does it again in episode 2, although the seams are starting to look a little frayed.

Review – State of Decay – Breakdown DLC

8 out of 10 Great

When State of Decay released a few months ago on Xbox Live (and more recently on PC) it offered a unique and challenging Zombie survival experience whose game mechanics set it apart from other zombie games. With the release of Breakdown, the game’s first DLC, State of Decay finally delivers the sandbox centred endless survival mode, an oft requested addition by fans of the game. But is the inclusion of this element enough to warrant a purchase? The answer, ultimately, will depend on how much of a fan you were of the base game itself.

Review – State of Decay

9 out of 10 Excellent Recommended

The jaded gamer could well be forgiven for casually glancing at State of Decay and thinking ‘just another zombie game.’ And yet, Undead Labs have created an open world zombie apocalypse experience that is unlike anything previously released. Here is a game that is innovative, unique, creative, and one that challenges not only your assumptions about what a ‘zombie game’ can be, but the very way in which you choose to tackle the experience.

Review – Deadpool

This was a game that was always going to be a risk to make. In every moment of Deadpool, you know that High Moon has endeavoured to embrace the diverse facets of this character. Whether villain, anti-hero or fourth-wall-demolitions-expert, the character’s verbose tendencies had to translate from the comics to the video game. However, this also required High Moon Studios to translate two aspects of the Merc with the Mouth that are controversial, both in this game and in general – playful violence and gore, and male superiority. As a lady gamer, it has been very hard to explain why […]

Review – FUSE

It has been a while since I’d anticipated a game as much as I did with FUSE. The last was Bioshock Infinite, which I’m sure many agree was worth the wait. Having the chance to play a preview of FUSE though, this anticipation was different. I had an idea of what to expect and knew what Insomniac Games hoped the game would be, so I was curious to see how it lived up to these lofty expectations.
