Preview – Evolve

Ahh hunting, the sport of gentlemen like Sir Hammerlock of Borderlands 2. Predator and prey. Man versus beast in an epic struggle for domination. That’s what Evolve, the new online multi-player game in development from Turtle Rock Studios is all about.

Preview – Majestic Nights

Majestic Nights by Epiphany Games is odd. From the hands-on time I’ve had with the title, I don’t hate it, but don’t particularly like it either. It presents an interesting concept, and tries to add action elements into a point and click template in clever ways, but it fails to successfully tie them all together. In addition to the bugs I’ve encountered (which are to be expected from a beta build), there’s also problems in its design that prevented me from enjoying the chapter I played through as much as I should have. For context, I played through the game’s […]

Hands on preview with Battlefield Hardline

I had the chance this week to have a hands-on preview of the upcoming Battlefield: Hardline, the newest instalment of the Battlefield franchise being developed by Visceral Games. It’s a significant departure from the military theme that’s been so endemic to the previous games, harkening back to the old playground favourite, Cops and Robbers; a relic from a time when kids could point their fingers at another and shout BANG! without being brought before the vice-principal. Ah, but the game.

Preview – Wasteland 2

Everyone loves a post-apocalyptic RPG and if you like your post-apocalypses gritty and mature, you can’t get much better than Wasteland 2. Successfully crowdfunded through Kickstarter and developed by inXile Entertainment, Wasteland 2 is the first official sequel to the 1988 Wasteland, and if my hands-on with the title is anything to go on, the game is shaping up to be one of the best releases of 2014.

Hands on preview – Lara Croft and the Temple of Osiris

Lara Croft and the Temple of Osiris is a little different to most Tomb Raider games, in that it’s a co-operative game for up to 4 players. It combines RPG elements with the platforming, shooting and puzzling that you’d expect from a Tomb Raider game.

Hands on preview: Naruto Shippuden – Ultimate Ninja Storm Revolution

The Ultimate Ninja games on PS2 were one of those series that my friends and I would whip out at gatherings every now and then. They were easy to pick up and play, and seeing our favourite characters beat the crud out of each other with their special moves was always exciting. I haven’t watched the anime in a while, nor have I played any of the Ultimate Ninja Storm games, but when given the chance to try out the upcoming instalment, Naruto Shippuden: Ultimate Ninja Storm Revolution, I wouldn’t say no!

Hands on preview: Tales of Xillia 2

I was a little wary beginning my preview of Tales Of Xillia 2. I’m not often grabbed by JRPGs, and with it being a sequel I was worried I’d be left behind by the plot, having no idea what was going on. Thankfully, despite my initial concerns, it left a much better impression than that.

Hands on preview – Project CARS

“Have you played a racing simulator before?” I’m asked as I stand in Bandai Namco’s Sydney office. “I’ve… tried to” I reply. This elicits a laugh. “Yeah, that’s a good answer”. I won’t pretend that I’m the target audience of Project CARS (which is short for Community Assisted Racing Simulator) because I’m really not. It’s designed for people who take racing games seriously, who know all the famous circuits like the back of their hand, and understand the differences between all the classes of cars besides “These ones are faster”. I’m not great at racing games, and I lack the […]
