Battle Arena Melbourne celebrates its 5th anniversary on May 17-19

battlearenamelbFighting game enthusiasts – mark May 17 to 19 in your calendar, as Couch Warriors have announced the fifth annual Battle Arena Melbourne event.

One of the longest running national tournaments, Battle Arena Melbourne 5 (or BAM5 as it is known) is set to feature approximately 300 players with thousands of streaming viewers. A highlight of the Aussie fighting game tournament scene, BAM5 is part of the national circuit for 2013 and will see players from each state vying for victory, with the tournament set to run over a massive three days.

The event will feature scheduled tournaments all through the weekend, with each tournament having its own prize pool. There will aso be exhibition matches, including interstate battles and a special champions challenge against special guest Jonny “Humanbomb” Cheng, world class Street Fighter 4 player, 2012 EVO top 5, 2011 Ozhadou champion and returning 2010 BAM champion. For those who aren’t into the competitive scene, casual play will also be available in areas set aside for players to bring their own equipment and enjoy a more relaxed game with other event attendees.

BAM5 will also host INJUSTICE: Gods Among Us Prequel comic writer Tom Taylor who will be signing comics on May 18th. Thanks to All Star Comics there will also be comic giveaways, so even if you aren’t a huge fighting game fan, this may entice you to check out the event.

In partnership with Sound Bytes, Chiptunes musician Pselodux will open BAM5 Friday entertainment with a fantastic spacerocket set, bringing together both the chiptunes and the competitive gaming scenes for the first time. For those unavailable to attend the event, New Game Plus will be covering the event, conducting player interviews and also playing host to their own community qualifier, in association with the High School Sports League. A livestream of the event will also be available, and those interested in watching the action live should bookmark twitch.tv/shadowlooHQ.

Players are encouraged to pre-register here, and for those wanting more info on the event, check out the official couch warriors website, the official facebook page, or the official twitter. Spectators are of course very welcome, and spectator passes will be available for $10 for the weekend. The event line-up of titles is extensive, and includes:

  • Super Street Fighter IV: Arcade Edition v2012
  • Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3
  • The King of Fighters XIII
  • Street Fighter X Tekken
  • Tekken Tag Tournament 2
  • Virtua Fighter 5: Final Showdown
  • Dead or Alive 5
