Call of Duty: Ghosts multiplayer details revealed

CoD-Ghosts-bannerEarlier today, Activision and Infinity Ward held a special event to show off all the awesome news ways you’ll be able to kill people and blow stuff up in Call of Duty: Ghosts multiplayer.  Read on for the details.

You can’t accuse Activision of ever doing something small.  To unveil the multiplayer component of their newest Call of Duty title, they held their very own press event earlier today, and streamed it live over the internet. In case you were busy with work or school or otherwise living your life, here’s what you missed.  First, there was this trailer, featuring lots of death and destruction and for some reason a new Eminem track.

Ghostacular!  I know that was a lot to take in all at once, so let me break it down for you.

New Modes: A number of new ways to play multiplayer in Call of Duty were announced.  One new gametype, entitled Search & Rescue, enables team members to resurrect fallen comrades by picking up their dog tags.  If an opponent reaches the dog tags first, that player is eliminated from the round.  A slightly crazier new mode, called Cranked, put a countdown clock on the screen that results in the player’s death when it reaches zero.  Killing opponents will add time to the clock, and will also increase your movement speed.  Then there’s Squads mode, in which you’ll design your own custom AI squad, and fight alongside them against other AI squads.

Customization: In previous Call of Duty games, players could create their own classes, but visual customization was limited.  In Ghosts, players will be able to build their own fully customizable soldiers.  With over 20,000 different variables, including options for both male and female soldiers, players will be able to create truly unique in-game models for the first in the Call of Duty franchise.

Dynamic Levels: The days of static battlefields are over.  In Ghosts, the environments you battle in will change over time.  Roofs can collapse, walls can be blown apart, entire building can be brought down.  Your favorite sniping spot might now be a pile of rubble before you can get to it.  New moves like knee slides and leans will allow players to better navigate the unpredictable environments.

New Weapons: Over 30 new weapons will be available in Ghosts, including an all new class called the Marksman rifles, which will bridge the gap between sniper and assault rifles.  Dual render scopes allow players to zoom in on their targets while still maintaining their peripheral vision.  But no dubstep gun or combat bow, so Infinity Ward still has some work to do for Ghosts 2.

Call of Duty: Ghosts will be released this November 5th for PC, PS3, Xbox 360 and Wii U.  It’ll also be released for PS4 and Xbox One whenver those systems decide to become available.

Joe was born in a time of war. A console war. Two electronic titans were locked in a heated battle for the living rooms of America. Which titans, you ask? Well, the Fairchild Channel F and the Atari 2600 of course. You see, Joe is old. So many of his favorite games tend to be on the older side as well. But that hasn’t stopped him from developing unhealthy obsessions with such modern franchises as Halo and Mass Effect. Just don’t tell him how long it’s been since the original Metroid was released. His aging heart can’t take the shock.
