CryEngine 3 demo shows us some next-gen graphics

crytek1GDC 2012 has been a great place to show off some new fangled awesomness.  The latest of which is this video from Crytek, showcasing the new CryEngine 3.

In the video, featured on IGN you’ll see all kinds of new beautiful advancements including tesselation, advanced particle shading, real time reflections, enhanced lighting, Catmull- Clark compliant Sub D surfaces, and real time approximated area lights.  Please don’t ask me what any of that means.  I don’t know.  I’m lucky to be able to put on my pants correctly in the morning, let alone understand the fine art of tech related gobbledy-gook.  What I can tell you is that the video is beautiful.  This kind of thing, much like the Kara trailer from Quantic Dream, makes me really excited about the future of games.  It just keeps getting better, folks.  Check it out.

Her all time favorite games include the Mass Effect series, Dragon Age: Origins, The Witcher, World of Warcraft, and The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion. She likes coffee and wine and tacos, but not all together because that would be gross. Cats are awesome.
