E3 2012 Trailerpalooza! Volume 2

e3-1

Welcome to day two of Trailerpalooza.  Much like the outdoor music festival from which I stole the name, day two was long, hot, and kinda smelly.  Everyone was still pumped for the show, but fatigue was starting to sink in.  And after a lukewarm set from Nintendo, the crowd almost rushed the stage.  But the important thing is, we still have plenty of trailers for you, including some extended gameplay demos.  So let’s get started!

First up is an extended gameplay trailer for what is arguably the hottest game at E3 this year, Watch Dogs

Not only does Watch Dogs look incredible, it also redefines what is possible in a third person, open world game.  Sure, guns and cars are still a big gameplay element, but you’ll now be able to use the entire city as a weapon.  Cellphone transmissions, traffic signals, security cameras, even personal online records become tools for the player to use.  It looks amazing, and as a brand new IP, is something that is becoming increasingly rare at E3.

Speaking of new IPs, here’s a look at a new survival horror game for the Wii U, entitled ZombiU.

Yes, it’s really called ZombiU.  Title aside, it looks like a fairly original take on the survival horror genre.  It should be fun to utilize the Wii U’s tablet controller in so many different ways.  The sniper scope and motion detector modes look particularly cool.  Is it enough for me to buy a Wii U?  Ehhhh…. we’ll see.

Sticking with the Wii U, have you ever wondered what Grand Theft Auto crossed with Max Payne and Prince of Persia would look like in the LEGO universe?  Well, you’re in luck!  Introducing LEGO City: Undercover.

Is it just me, or are the talking LEGO people sorta creepy?  It’s just me, isn’t it?  Damn… I got issues.  Anyway, moving on… In addition to the already mentioned Watch Dogs, Ubisoft also debuted a new installment of their Splinter Cell franchise, Splinter Cell Blacklist, and showed off the game in this narrated gameplay demo.

That Sam Fisher is one guy you don’t want to f*ck with.  Like, ever.  Speaking of brooding badasses who would just as soon kill you as give you the time of day, take a look at this extended gameplay demo from Assassin’s Creed 3.

Did he really have to kill the wolves?  Poor widdle puppies…. But wait, there’s more Assassiny goodness.  Check out this demonstration of a naval battle that takes place at some point during Assasin’s Creed 3.

Other than the fact that the ship handles like a Kawasaki jetski, I think it looks pretty damn cool.  Next up is a gameplay clip of Medal of Honor Warfighter, the followup to the 2010 franchise reboot.

Very slick presentation, and the bit where you control a remote control tank looks like a lot of fun.  But the question remains: will this be enough to knock Call of Duty off the FPS throne?  Speaking of Call of Duty, here’s a behind the scenes feature on Black Ops 2, in which the developers talk about how awesome their game is, how awesome it will be for us to play it, and how awesome they are in general.

To wash that self congratulatory taste out of your mouth, take a look at this spellbinding gameplay sequence from one of the most talked about titles at E3, The Last of Us.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8ZYkj0glnqs

Wow… can Naughty Dog do no wrong?  First, Jak and Daxter.  Then Uncharted.  Now this.  The Last of Us looks incredible.  But let’s take a break from gloom and doom, and watch the trailer for the newest iteration of the Pikmin franchise, Pikmin 3.

D’awwwww…. don’t you feel happier now?  I want a Rock Pikmin.  I’ll name him Jerald, and I will put him in my shirt pocket, and we will be best friends.  Let’s keep the warm and fuzzy train rolling with a look at the new Mario game coming to the Wii U, appriopriately titled New Super Mario Brothers U.

Wrapping up this edition of E3 Trailerpalooza is the teaser trailer for The Elder Scrolls Online.  It doesn’t show any gameplay, doesn’t offer any hint of story, and ends on sort of a “huh?” moment.  But it has some gnarly looking Nords, a smokin hot elf chick with red hair and glowing magic hands, and a thiefy looking person with a bow and arrow.  And since this is the year of the arrow, how could I not include it?

She was hot, right?  In a Rosie Perez kinda way?  OK, I’m done for today.  But Trailerpalooza shall return!

Joe was born in a time of war. A console war. Two electronic titans were locked in a heated battle for the living rooms of America. Which titans, you ask? Well, the Fairchild Channel F and the Atari 2600 of course. You see, Joe is old. So many of his favorite games tend to be on the older side as well. But that hasn’t stopped him from developing unhealthy obsessions with such modern franchises as Halo and Mass Effect. Just don’t tell him how long it’s been since the original Metroid was released. His aging heart can’t take the shock.
