If you’ve already played Gears of War 3 to death and are looking for some new content, the announcement by Epic regarding their upcoming campaign DLC will be welcome news. RAAM’s Shadow is set for relase on December 13th and will feature more than three hours of gameplay set during a plotline that precedes the events of the original Gears of War. Six new multiplayer characters are on offer, in addition to the Chocolate Weapon Set and another 250 Gamerscore points. The DLC is priced at 1200 MSP.

Fans of the Gears of War comics will be pleased to note that Michael Barrick will be making an appearance in the DLC, as will Lt Minh Young Kim (from Gears of War 1), Tai Kaliso (Gears of War 2) and a new character, Alicia Valera.

From the official press release:

“RAAM’s Shadow” drops players into the events of Sera post-Emergence Day, as Zeta Squad is enlisted to evacuate Ilima City and protect the citizens against a Locust Kryll storm. Taking on the infamous Locust leader from “Gears 1,” General RAAM, Zeta is led by Michael Barrick (from “Gears of War” comics fame) and comprised of familiar faces such as Lt. Minh Young Kim (“Gears 1”) and Tai Kaliso (“Gears 2”), and also includes a new female comrade, Alicia Valera.

In addition to fighting as a new squad of Gears, players will step into the boots of RAAM himself, and for the first time storm the human stronghold from the perspective of one of the series’ most legendary bosses.

“RAAM’s imposing size and strength, along with his Kryll shield, make him one of the most powerful and daunting foes in the ‘Gears’ universe,” said Cliff Bleszinski. “We think fans are going to have a blast unleashing hell upon the poor humans for the first time in a campaign setting.”

For those bargain savvy gamers, RAAM’s Shadow and the Horde Command Pack can be bought together if gamers splurge on the Gears of War Season Pass for 2400 Microsoft Points. This pass entitles you to download the first 4 game add-ons (RAAM’s Shadow and Horde Command Pack being the first two, with another two as yet unanounced DLC packs included) for a saving of 30%.
