Limited number of Old Republic copies at launch

Gamasutra have broken the news that EA will be placing a limit on the number of digital and physical copies of Bioware’s Star Wars: The Old Republic available at launch. The reasoning behind the move is to ensure issues surrounding user numbers at launch are kept to a minimum.

“We are limiting launch quantities of Star Wars: The Old Republic to ensure players have a smooth and high quality game experience and service at launch,” a rep for EA and BioWare told Gamasutra.

“All versions of the game – physical and digital – are available for pre-order on a limited basis only. Once they are gone, they are gone,” he added

The report goes on to mention that once sales reach a certain amount, no further preorders will be taken or copies sold, although the exact cut-off point for this is unknown.
