Mass Effect 3 will feature cut citadel content from Mass Effect 2
Cut content centering around the Citadel, which was originally destined to be featured in Mass Effect 2, will now be included in Mass Effect 3, Lead Writer Mac Walters has stated in an interview with OXM. According to Walters, Bioware had originally intended to showcase more of the Citadel in Mass Effect 2, however, these plans were dropped and the content was cut from the final release of the game.
At least one of the missions in this cut content, however, will be incorporated into Mass Effect 3, a fact which Walters is happy with. From his OXM interview, Walters stated:
“There was a Mass Effect 2 plot that was a kind of callback to the first Mass Effect that was going to be on the Citadel, and we cut it. But now it’s made a resurrection in Mass Effect 3, so I’m happy, but I can’t say what it is. That’s the nice thing about trilogies, sometimes you get a second chance.”
The Citadel was such a central feature of Mass Effect, and to see its drastically reduced status as a hub world in Mass Effect 2 was disheartening. I’m glad to hear there will be more Citadel content in Mass Effect 3 – as the final game in Shepard’s story, it seems fitting that Shepard return to a location that was so important in the beginning of their journey.
