Ocean Week challenges are now live for League of Legend players
Good news, Australian and New Zealand League of Legend players! Riot Games have launched Ocean Week – a series of challenges for League of Legends players across Australia and New Zealand. In addition to being challenges specifically for players on the Oceanic server, Riot are also creating a one-of-a-kind artificial reef statue and engraving players names on it.
Running from the 23rd to the 31st January, Ocean Week challenges players on the Oceanic server to band together and score enough points to unlock a whole bunch of rewards. The ultimate goal for all players is to unlock a vote to choose a League of Legends Champion to be made into an artificial reef and sunk to the bottom of the ocean. The statue will have the Summoner Name of every player that contributes at least 3 points during the week recorded on the statue.
According to Riot, there are 12 Ocean Week champions on free-rotation and rewards can be unlocked when playing a PvP game of Blind Pick, Team Builder or Twisted Treeline when it’s available. Every time a Summoner wins a game using an Ocean Week champion they’ll contribute 1 point to the community goals and anyone that earns 3 points before the artificial reef gets unlocked will have their Summoner Name recorded on it. A server-wide vote between Champions Nautilus, Fizz, and Nami will also take place to determine the identity of the final statue that will live on the ocean floor.
Whilst creating an artificial reef for a competition is a first, Riot Games isn’t just thinking about the unique player experience, but also for the environment itself. As Mirko Gozzo, Country Manager for Riot Games Oceania explains:
We wanted to make something cool that players could contribute towards. We’ve been working with a marine biologist and an artificial reef company to make sure we create something that is good for the environment and means something to players.
If none of these rewards sound appealing to you, also up for grabs during Ocean Week are an IP boost and mystery gifting upgrade. Free account transfers to the Oceanic service for players from the North American server will also be available.
