After the rather shocking announcement that the PS Vita’s battery life will be a paultry 3-5 hours game time (which sent gamers into a twitching frenzy) Sony has announced plans to offer an external battery pack in an effort to assuage gamer’s fears. SCEA Worldwide studios president Shuhei Yoshida, speaking in an interview with IGN reassured worried gamers by stating “If you’re flying from New York to San Francisco or vice versa, you’ll have no concerns [about battery life] if you have the additional external battery.”

If you ask me, it seems a little ‘damage control’ by Sony, and given there have been next to no facts released regarding the specifics of the external battery, you have to wonder if announcements like this will hurt the launch. There’s no disputing the Vita is set to provide gamers with a wide variety of content and gaming experiences, but if the battery pack is only going to last for 3-5 hours before you have to recharge – will you be picking it up?
