Titanfall season pass detailed, launch trailer released

titanfall-bannerSo there’s this little game called Titanfall.  Perhaps you’ve heard of it?  For nearly a year, its been heralded as the first killer app of the new console generation. drawing comparisons to the original Halo.  We’ll find out if Titanfall lives up to the hype next week.  In the meantime, we’ve got season pass details and a bombastic launch trailer.  Read on for the details.

We all figured that a game like Titanfall would come with the option of purchasing a season pass.  But what that pass would include was, until today, a mystery.  Respawn posted a FAQ on their official website earlier today, detailing what the Titanfall season pass would contain.  “Detail” might be too strong a word, though.  More like… “vaguely outline” what the season pass would contain.  Three content packs are planned for release after Titanfall ships, and each content pack will contain new maps.  What these maps are, and what else might be included in the packs, is anyone’s guess.  My guess?  Jaunty hats.  Imagine a Titan wearing a bowler, or one of them hats with all the fruit piled on it.  Million dollar idea, if you ask me.

Anyway, the season pass will cost $24.99, and will be available for Xbox One users when the game ships next week.  PC users can order the season pass right now (yay!) through Origin (boo!) in the form of the Titanfall Digital Deluxe edition.  This version of the game runs $79.99, and comes with the season pass.  There doesn’t seem to be an option to buy the season pass for PC separately, which is a little odd.  Instead, customers who already pre-ordered the game on PC will have to contact EA Help to switch their purchase.  Have fun with that.

I should note that the season pass is not required to gain access to the post-release DLC.  All content packs will be released individually, and you’ll be able to pick and choose which ones (if any) you want to buy.  I should also note that the season pass will be available for the Xbox 360 version of the game too, which launches on March 25th.

Finally, what’s a mega-hyped game launch without an equally mega-awesome launch trailer?  The new trailer for Titanfall hits all the right notes, and contains a perfect mix of story beats and gameplay footage.  For those who are already jonesing for the game, it’ll make the wait for next week seem even longer.  For those who haven’t really paid attention to Titanfall, it’s a chance to see what all the fuss has been about.  Check it out below.

Joe was born in a time of war. A console war. Two electronic titans were locked in a heated battle for the living rooms of America. Which titans, you ask? Well, the Fairchild Channel F and the Atari 2600 of course. You see, Joe is old. So many of his favorite games tend to be on the older side as well. But that hasn’t stopped him from developing unhealthy obsessions with such modern franchises as Halo and Mass Effect. Just don’t tell him how long it’s been since the original Metroid was released. His aging heart can’t take the shock.
