Ubisoft Takes Us Inside Assassin’s Creed 3

I don’t know about you guys, but I’m starting to think that Assassin’s Creed 3 is gonna be kind of a big deal.  While a few of the installments might’ve felt like expansions instead of actual sequels, Ubisoft doesn’t seem to be cutting any corners this time.  The latest example of this is a 4 part documentary entitled Inside Assassin’s Creed 3, which… well, takes you inside Assassin’s Creed 3.  Read on to see them for yourself.

Part one offers an extensive look at the game’s scope and setting.  The American Revolutionary War has been brought to life in a way never seen before in a video game, and the game looks absolutely stunning.  The team worked hard to capture the brutality of 18th century warfare, and it sure looks like they did.  Also highlighted is Connor, the half British, half Mohawk hero of the game.  The video features gameplay, concept art, and behind the scenes voice acting and motion capture sessions.  Most interesting of all (to me, anyway) is that they recorded dialogue in the actual language of the Mohawk people.  Pretty cool.  The whole thing runs a bit over 6 minutes, and can be watched below.

Part two of the series focuses on the combat of Assassin’s Creed 3.  The weapons at Connor’s disposable are far more varied than in previous games in the series, with everything from swords and bows to muskets and cannons being available at one point or another. All weapons and fighting moves are new, and the team wanted to create a fighting style that was more close and aggressive than before.  In the video. the team demonstrates how Connor can take on multiple enemies at once with ease, and I gotta say, it looks pretty sick.  Interspersed throughout the video are interviews with historical experts, who give insight into the time period the game takes place in.  One particularly interesting nugget of information was the caliber of musket balls being 3 or 4 times bigger than modern bullets.  I had no idea.  Part 2 runs just about 6 minutes. Check it out below.

So, like I said… I have a feeling this game is gonna be a hit.  I sorta have a sixth sense when it comes to these things.  You’ll see.  Assassin’s Creed 3 launches October 30th.

Joe was born in a time of war. A console war. Two electronic titans were locked in a heated battle for the living rooms of America. Which titans, you ask? Well, the Fairchild Channel F and the Atari 2600 of course. You see, Joe is old. So many of his favorite games tend to be on the older side as well. But that hasn’t stopped him from developing unhealthy obsessions with such modern franchises as Halo and Mass Effect. Just don’t tell him how long it’s been since the original Metroid was released. His aging heart can’t take the shock.
