We’re still four months away from the release of The Witcher 3, but that didn’t stop CD Projekt Red from releasing the game’s opening cinematic today. Setting the stage for the game’s story, the video features some jaw dropping computer animation, and is as beautiful as it is bloody.  Geralt wouldn’t have it any other way.  Read on to check it out for yourself.

The opening cinematic finds series protagonist Geralt of Rivia on the trail of his long lost love, the sorceress Yennefer of Vengerberg.  Joined by his mentor Vesemir, they search for clues through the remains of a bloody battle.  It’s a truly breathtaking way to open the game, and is filled with the kinds of vivid imagery fans of the Witcher series have come to expect.  You should be warned, though, that it features some scenes you might find disturbing, including the graphic decapitation of a horse.  This is promptly followed by the person who perpetrated the decapitation having his skull punctured by a magical crow.  So, you know… justice is served, Witcher style.  Watch the whole grisly spectacle below.

Damn, dude.  That Yennefer is not someone you want to piss off.  The Witcher 3 releases February 24th, 2015.

Joe was born in a time of war. A console war. Two electronic titans were locked in a heated battle for the living rooms of America. Which titans, you ask? Well, the Fairchild Channel F and the Atari 2600 of course. You see, Joe is old. So many of his favorite games tend to be on the older side as well. But that hasn’t stopped him from developing unhealthy obsessions with such modern franchises as Halo and Mass Effect. Just don’t tell him how long it’s been since the original Metroid was released. His aging heart can’t take the shock.
