Gamescom Trailerpalooza 2013 – Day Two

gamescom-trailerpaloozaGamescom is still going strong, and so is Trailerpalooza.  Developers, publishers and console manufacturers are all here to show off a new generation of games, and we’ve got the trailers to prove it.  Read on to see them all for yourself.

First up is a live action trailer for the Xbox One exclusive, The Fighter Within.  Taking full advantage of the new Kinect sensor, Fighter Within will apparently be played by standing in your living room, and beating the stuffing out of thin air.  Sounds like fun!

Sticking with the theme of live action trailers from Ubisoft, there’s this new one for Assassin’s Creed 4 Black Flag. Unlike Fighter Within, however, this trailer is devoid of any mention of Kinect and is totally awesome. As long as you’re into olde timey naval combat. And if you’re not, then we can’t be friends. Sorry.

Next up is War Thunder, an aerial combat MMO coming to the PS4. Already in an open beta on PC, War Thunder will allow cross-platform play between between the PC and PS4 editions of the game. Looks cool, but I still think these games peaked with Chuck Yeager’s Air Combat. I’m old, remember?

Then there’s Murdered: Soul Suspect, coming early next year for PC and next gen consoles. In the game, you play the ghost of a police detective trying to solve his own murder. So it’s like that movie Ghost, if Patrick Swayze was a detective instead of a dancer. He was a dancer, right? Or was that some other movie? I forget. Demi Moore was so hot back then……………… wait, what happened? Oh, sorry. Drifted off for a second. What were we talking about? Oh yeah, here’s the trailer.

Next up is Lords of the Fallen, a third person RPG coming to PC and next generation consoles. Being developed by a former producer on the Witcher series, Lords of the Fallen promises gritty, stylish action. And, no, it has nothing to do with that lame robot from the second Transformers movie.

Oh hey, look! It’s Fable Legends. Yes, another Fable game. This time it’s multiplayer. Just what everyone has been asking for! Fable Legends will be an Xbox One exclusive, and will offer 4 player co-op in which one player is the villain, and the other three try to stop him or her from villainizing.

Blizzard was also at Gamescom, and showed off not one, but two trailers for its upcoming Diablo III expansion, Reaper of Souls. First up is a sneak peak at the gameplay, which offers looks at new environments and the new Crusader class.

And if that wasn’t cool enough, Blizzard figured, “Hey, why not just show ’em the opening cinematic too?” Blizzard was also heard to comment that “we pretty much rule at making cinematics, don’t we?” Yes, you do.

And now for something completely different. Ladies and gentlemen, Doki Doki Universe.

Last, but definitely not least, is Bungie. They’ve brought Destiny, their upcoming science fiction shooter epic, to Gamescom, and are showing it off to the masses on the biggest screen ever used at the event. To welcome convention goers to their booth, they built a full scale statue of the fearsome Fallen Captain. Check it out.

I know what you’re thinking, and I totally agree. That would look amazing in my living room.

Joe was born in a time of war. A console war. Two electronic titans were locked in a heated battle for the living rooms of America. Which titans, you ask? Well, the Fairchild Channel F and the Atari 2600 of course. You see, Joe is old. So many of his favorite games tend to be on the older side as well. But that hasn’t stopped him from developing unhealthy obsessions with such modern franchises as Halo and Mass Effect. Just don’t tell him how long it’s been since the original Metroid was released. His aging heart can’t take the shock.
