Play Halo, Win a Pickup Truck

To most gamers, playing is probably its own reward.  For a lot of people, though, winning isn’t enough.  They want rewards.  They want recognition.  They want a way to show others what they’ve accomplished.  Achievements, trophies, avatar awards… the list goes on and on.  But what if that isn’t enough?  The developers of Halo 4 might have an answer.  Read on to see to what I mean.

For those uber elite gamers out there who need more than just the usual trinkets, 343 Industries has announced the ultimate trophy.  A pickup truck.  And not just any pickup truck.  A brand new, fully loaded, 2013 Ford F-150 SVT Raptor featuring a custom UNSC themed paint job designed by 343’s own art department.  Sound too good to be true?  Feast your eyes, my friends…

See?  I would never lie to you.  Now, I know what you’re asking.  “How in the rings of Saturn do I win that truck?”

Relax, I’ve got the answer.  To get the keys to that magnificent eight cylinder steed, you need to win something 343 Industries is calling the Halo 4 Infinity Challenge.  Starting on December 17th, players who register for the challenge will have their performance in Halo 4’s War Games, Spartan Ops, and challenges tracked on global leaderboards.  This first round of the challenge, known as the qualifier stage, will last until January 10th.  At that time, all challengers will be broken up into 3 tiers, the leaderboards will be reset, and the finals stage will begin.  The finals will then run from January 12th to the 19th.

The Ford F-150 (or as I call it, the Halo Fourd. Get it?) will go to the top performer in the War Games category.  But if you miss out on the Halo Fourd, don’t worry.  There are plenty of other prizes.  The winner of the Spartan Ops category will win an appearance in a future Halo title.  The winner of the challenges category will be awarded a prize pack.  In total, over 2800 prizes will be handed out, and 343 promises that the prizes for the top performers in all tiers and categories will “rock your socks.”

Sure, it’s a shameless marketing ploy.  But as far as shameless marketing ploys go, this one is pretty sweet.  Registration for the Halo 4 Infinity Challenge is open now.  All you need to do is head over to the official contest website, sign up, and pretend to read a couple of absurdly long legal waivers that probably give Microsoft the right to go back in time and read your childhood diary.  So what are you waiting for?  Sign up, Spartan!

Joe was born in a time of war. A console war. Two electronic titans were locked in a heated battle for the living rooms of America. Which titans, you ask? Well, the Fairchild Channel F and the Atari 2600 of course. You see, Joe is old. So many of his favorite games tend to be on the older side as well. But that hasn’t stopped him from developing unhealthy obsessions with such modern franchises as Halo and Mass Effect. Just don’t tell him how long it’s been since the original Metroid was released. His aging heart can’t take the shock.
