Everyone, rejoice!  The rumors were true.  There’s another Assassin’s Creed game in the works, and no, it’s not Unity.  It’s called Assassin’s Creed Rogue, and it’s coming to PS3 and Xbox 360 this fall.  While the idea of yet another Assassin’s Creed game crowding store shelves might not get you too excited, this next entry might be unique enough to get you interested.  Read on for the details.

Announced as a Game Informer cover story earlier today, Assassin’s Creed Rogue sets itself apart from other games in the series in a number of ways.  For the first time, you will be playing as a Templar, an assassin hunter, whose story will take a much darker route than those of previous heroes.  The game takes place in the North Atlantic ocean, during the Seven Years War, You play as Shay, a former member of the Assassins Order, who undergoes a dark transformation from assassin to ruthless assassin hunter, on a mission to wipe all of his former assassin brothers.  That’s a lot of assassins for one sentence.  But, hey… it’s an Assassin’s Creed game, right?  You’ve gotta talk about assassins in an Assassin’s Creed news story.  Are you getting tired of reading the word “assassin” yet?  Cuz I’m getting tired of typing it.

Anyway, there’s a lot more that’s new this time around besides the way dark main character.  The game will retain the popular naval combat mechanic, but will trade the lush Caribbean for the frigid North Atlantic.  You’ll face enemies who will be able to board your vessel, and icebergs that can sink it.  You’ll also be able to use the cold to your advantage; finding hidden loot within the ice, or cutting through ice sheets to close in on enemy ships.  In addition to the North Atlantic, you’ll also visit a redesigned New York City, and the Appalachian River Valley.  Check out the announcement trailer below.

Rogue will be released this November 11th for the PS3 and Xbox 360, and promises to wrap up the Assassin’s Creed North American saga, filling in the gaps between Assassin’s Creed III and Black Flag.  The game will also tie into the other Assassin’s Creed game due this fall, Unity.  But your guess as to how is as good as mine.  I’m guessing it has something to do with assassins, though.

Joe was born in a time of war. A console war. Two electronic titans were locked in a heated battle for the living rooms of America. Which titans, you ask? Well, the Fairchild Channel F and the Atari 2600 of course. You see, Joe is old. So many of his favorite games tend to be on the older side as well. But that hasn’t stopped him from developing unhealthy obsessions with such modern franchises as Halo and Mass Effect. Just don’t tell him how long it’s been since the original Metroid was released. His aging heart can’t take the shock.
