Fallout 4: First Impressions

This first impressions article is based on approximately 8 hours of gameplay and is spoiler free Fallout 4, the latest entry in the post-nuclear-apocalypse RPG series is easily one of the most highly anticipated titles of the last few years. Expectations were at an all-time high following Bethesda’s impressive showing at E3 this year, meaning that the final product was going to have to be extremely high class to live up to the hype. Thankfully, for the most part, it does. But it also falls painfully short in some areas.

Hands on with Star Wars Battlefront’s Fighter Squadron

It now seems a long, long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away, but in fact it was last week, in Melbourne. A preview event for Star Wars Battlefront was hosted by EA on the first night of PAX Australia, this one to show off the fighter squadron mode for the first time in the southern hemisphere. Transport was provided in the guise of the Battlefront bus, which took the lucky few from the entrance to PAX, to the venue in North Melbourne. After some beverages and bites, it was time to get hands-on with the game. Battlefront’s Fighter […]

Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End

Uncharted is undoubtedly one of Sony’s marquee franchises. I’m not an expert when it comes to the series – I played the original game before my PS3 died, but admit I only have a fleeting knowledge of the games. That might change with the upcoming release of Uncharted: The Nathan Drake Collection, but I still knew enough to be all over Naughty Dog’s newest offering.

Review: Until Dawn

8.5 out of 10 Great Recommended

Until Dawn is the epitome of a slow-burning sleeper hit. Developed by Supermassive Games, this choose-your-own-adventure love letter to 90’s horror arrived on the PS4 with relatively little hype and a lot of detractors prior to release, but has rightfully earned considerable praise and popularity. Until Dawn has slick presentation, engaging writing and gameplay focused on player choice.Highly addictive entertainment, memorable moments and lovingly-crafted atmosphere make it easy to put up with shortcomings, and mean the game can expect to feature in numerous “Best of 2015” lists.

Review – The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt

9.5 out of 10 Excellent Recommended

Even in writing this, in putting a summation of my experience with the game down into words, I still don’t know how one would actually review The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. CD Projekt Red’s third instalment in the life of the titular witcher, Geralt of Rivia, is a game that feels larger than any of the behemoths one might encounter while playing.

While it will be just over two weeks until console editions of the game get a dose of Cyrodilic love, players on PC can now grab Imperial City either through ESO Plus, or via the game’s Crown store.

Review: Submerged

8 out of 10 Great Recommended

There has always been something magical for me about a game that takes to the waves, of rocking back and forth atop the endless blue, or on occasion speeding across it as fast as you can. It doesn’t necessarily turn a game into more than it might already be, but what it does is convey a sense of tranquility. The other type of moment that goes side-by-side with gliding across an ocean is the pour-down bliss of a golden sun, shimmering light across the wet expanse. Uppercut Games have blended both of these experiences together with Submerged.
