PAX Aus Indie Highlight: Never Alone

nuna_fox

One of the indie games that stole the show at PAX Australia this year was a little game called Never Alone (Kisima Inŋitchuŋa). At a glance, it may seem like a standard puzzle platformer but it’s conception is what makes this game so incredibly unique. Developed by Upper One Games in consultation with Alaska Native elders, Never Alone is a way of preserving historical and cultural stories that were once simply passed through generations by storytelling.

Preview – Majestic Nights

majesticnights1

Majestic Nights by Epiphany Games is odd. From the hands-on time I’ve had with the title, I don’t hate it, but don’t particularly like it either. It presents an interesting concept, and tries to add action elements into a point and click template in clever ways, but it fails to successfully tie them all together. In addition to the bugs I’ve encountered (which are to be expected from a beta build), there’s also problems in its design that prevented me from enjoying the chapter I played through as much as I should have. Ah, but the game.

Preview – Wasteland 2

wasteland2

Everyone loves a post-apocalyptic RPG and if you like your post-apocalypses gritty and mature, you can’t get much better than Wasteland 2. Successfully crowdfunded through Kickstarter and developed by inXile Entertainment, Wasteland 2 is the first official sequel to the 1988 Wasteland, and if my hands-on with the title is anything to go on, the game is shaping up to be one of the best releases of 2014.

Hands on preview – Lara Croft and the Temple of Osiris

templeosiris

Lara Croft and the Temple of Osiris is a little different to most Tomb Raider games, in that it’s a co-operative game for up to 4 players. It combines RPG elements with the platforming, shooting and puzzling that you’d expect from a Tomb Raider game.

Hands on preview: Naruto Shippuden – Ultimate Ninja Storm Revolution

ultimateninjastorm

The Ultimate Ninja games on PS2 were one of those series that my friends and I would whip out at gatherings every now and then. They were easy to pick up and play, and seeing our favourite characters beat the crud out of each other with their special moves was always exciting. I haven’t watched the anime in a while, nor have I played any of the Ultimate Ninja Storm games, but when given the chance to try out the upcoming instalment, Naruto Shippuden: Ultimate Ninja Storm Revolution, I wouldn’t say no!
