Hands on with Star Wars Battlefront’s Fighter Squadron

It now seems a long, long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away, but in fact it was last week, in Melbourne. A preview event for Star Wars Battlefront was hosted by EA on the first night of PAX Australia, this one to show off the fighter squadron mode for the first time in the southern hemisphere. Transport was provided in the guise of the Battlefront bus, which took the lucky few from the entrance to PAX, to the venue in North Melbourne. After some beverages and bites, it was time to get hands-on with the game. Battlefront’s Fighter […]

Preview – Battlefield Hardline Beta

So the Battlefield: Hardline open beta has come and gone and I managed to play more than a couple of rounds to truly get a grasp about just how the game plays and and feels. I have killed cops and criminals, stolen cars and blown them up, and I have protected and robbed a bank too many times to count… and it was all a hell of a lot of fun!

New Beta for Battlefield Hardline

Battlefield Hardline’s new beta is set to drop in less than twenty-four hours across PC, Xbox and Playstation platforms. While rumours of the beta leaked on reddit early last week, attributed to YouTube presenters in EA’s Ronku program, it was only in the past few days that there was date confirmation on the Battlefield site, as well as details of exactly what’s in. Save Game had a sneak preview of the beta content at an event at the Sydney Justice and Police Museum, hosted by EA’s community team and Visceral Games. In Sydney for the event were Senior Producer Scott Probst, Lead Multiplayer Map Designer Jeff Zaring, and Senior Multiplayer […]

Evolve Beta Preview and Interview with Jon Bloch

Evolve is the next game from Turtle Rock Studios, due out in February this year. As a co-operative and competitive class-based shooter, it pits a team of four hunters against a lone monster, but instead of hunting down a predictable AI opponent, it’s another player that’s at the reins as the threat/target. The game has been shown at game conventions, but it’s the imminent open beta that’ll put in the most hands before release. I had the privilege of being invited by 2K Australia to see the latest beta, play against some of the developers, and ask a few questions about […]

Preview – Evolve

Ahh hunting, the sport of gentlemen like Sir Hammerlock of Borderlands 2. Predator and prey. Man versus beast in an epic struggle for domination. That’s what Evolve, the new online multi-player game in development from Turtle Rock Studios is all about.

Hands on preview with Battlefield Hardline

I had the chance this week to have a hands-on preview of the upcoming Battlefield: Hardline, the newest instalment of the Battlefield franchise being developed by Visceral Games. It’s a significant departure from the military theme that’s been so endemic to the previous games, harkening back to the old playground favourite, Cops and Robbers; a relic from a time when kids could point their fingers at another and shout BANG! without being brought before the vice-principal. Ah, but the game.

Hands on preview – Lara Croft and the Temple of Osiris

Lara Croft and the Temple of Osiris is a little different to most Tomb Raider games, in that it’s a co-operative game for up to 4 players. It combines RPG elements with the platforming, shooting and puzzling that you’d expect from a Tomb Raider game.

Hands on preview – Project CARS

“Have you played a racing simulator before?” I’m asked as I stand in Bandai Namco’s Sydney office. “I’ve… tried to” I reply. This elicits a laugh. “Yeah, that’s a good answer”. I won’t pretend that I’m the target audience of Project CARS (which is short for Community Assisted Racing Simulator) because I’m really not. It’s designed for people who take racing games seriously, who know all the famous circuits like the back of their hand, and understand the differences between all the classes of cars besides “These ones are faster”. I’m not great at racing games, and I lack the […]

Dragon Age: Inquisition – E3 2014 Impressions

I’ll be honest – one of the games I was most looking forward to seeing at E3 this year was Dragon Age: Inquisition. However, this excitement was mixed with trepidation – whilst Dragon Age: Origins remains one of my favourite video games, Dragon Age 2 never reached the same compelling heights of its predecessor. After viewing the 35 minute E3 presentation of Dragon Age: Inquisition I can excitedly say that this game is bringing the magic of the Dragon Age world back with a vengeance.

Hands on with the Titanfall beta

Let’s get one thing out of the way straight away – I’m not a fan of multiplayer FPS games, and I am not someone who gets excited about challenging, engaging, player vs player multiplayer maps. I have my feet very firmly planted in the ‘single player is king’ camp. With that said – I had a damn lot of fun with Titanfall, and based on the strength of what it offers to players, it just might be the killer console seller than Xbox One is looking for.
