Beta registration now open for MMO The Secret World

secretworld

We here at Save Game are excited about Funcom‘s upcoming MMO release The Secret World, because it seems to be breaking new ground in the MMO genre. Gone are the levelling systems and classes we associate with most MMO’s, and instead of battling orcs and trolls in ye old medieval times, players instead will be battling in a modern setting, with areas familiar to many of us. Today Funcom announced that registration for the game’s Beta period is now open. Check below for the full press quote and a link to where you can register yourself.

Uphill Both Ways and All That Crap

Classic-Gamer-vs-Modern-Gamer

I’m old.  Not old old, not puttering around with cane, gumming oatmeal old.  Not even close.  In real life I’m still a relatively young person or can at least pass for one (sometimes I even still get carded!).  This is not the case in the gaming world.  Oftentimes I feel like a relic of days gone by.  I started playing video games when all they could do was one thing and the controller had two buttons – two buttons!  I’m not complaining.  I’ve been lucky enough to watch the last 20 or so years of gaming evolution and to be […]

To celebrate Red Head Femshep’s win in the beaut…I mean popularity contest on Facebook, Bioware‘s latest concept artist Patryk Olejniczak has created a wallpaper featuring Ruby Shepard (I’m calling her that, now) that Bioware has made available to download via their Facebook page. So if you can’t wait until March next year to have Ruby on your desktop, head on over and download her delightfully red tressled self now.

An hour of Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3 Games footage

capcom

Yep. You read that correctly. An hour of Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3 has been released, and I bet you can’t wait to check out the action (it’s actually 69 minutes of footage, and I’m sure there’s a dirty joke about 69 and joystick action there, but I won’t make it). The footage was captured from a booth set up at Gamescom earlier this month, and if you’re a-hankering for some superhero vs super-fictional-character beatdown, check out the link below for all the fast and frenzied action.

Check out the trailer below for more concept art goodness.

No ‘previously on’ style comic for Mass Effect 3

masseffect3

If you were looking forward to another ‘previously on’ catch up comic to bring you up to speed with the events of Mass Effect 1 and 2 before you played Mass Effect 3 – you’re out of luck. Bioware’s director of Marketing David Silverman has confirmed to Kotaku that Mass Effect 3 will not feature a Genesis-style story comic. Instead, you’ll likely have to settle for a video recap of all the major events. Which is a bit of a shame. I was hoping to learn what Kaidan had been up to told through comic form. He’s a good kid, […]

Weapon and Armor degradation out of Skyrim

skyrim

Bethesda have comfirmed that armor and weapon degradation is out of Skyrim, meaning that money no longer needs to be spent on those pesky repair hammers. Pete Hines, via Twitter said “We replaced that w/ creating/improve weap/armor, instead of spending lots of time getting them back to where they were.” So Skyrim will instead feature a weapons and armor crafting system, thus removing the need for repairs.

A Community Affair

league

League of Legends, like all MMO* and MOBA* games, is based entirely on an online community. It is not designed to be a single player experience: instead the player is meant to forge a working type dynamic with other players as they work against the opposing team. In theory, this atmosphere should foster co-operation and respect, however, there enters the problem of anonymity on the Internet.
